Circuit Court Case Codes All cases filed in the Circuit Court requires a two letter case “code”. This page provides all of the case codes for the many types of cases. SCAO Forms This page provides the user with access to all SCAO forms. Yes it is true; all the forms that attorneys used to receive in two 3-inch books are all here. This is a great resource for all attorneys. Michigan Rules of Court This page provides an electronic version of the court rules with comments. This is a great resource to check on the most recent version of the rules as well as the ability to copy and paste the rules into documents. Michigan Compiled Laws (MCL) This page allows the user to access the complete updated MCL. The search engine can work with specific statute numbers or general search terms. While the statutes are not annotated, this is a great place to start researching. Michigan Supreme and Appellate Court Opinions This is a free search tool. Court opinions can be searched by docket number or by a general text entry. The cases cover published Supreme court and Appellate court opinions released since January 2001 and Court of Appeals unpublished opinions released since July 1996. Versus Law This is a legal research site that is a pay site, but what a deal! This site has a very extensive case law search engine. This site covers the Michigan Supreme Court, Appellate Court and the Federal court for the Sixth Circuit and E.D. of Michigan District Court. The price is a fraction of the other pay sites with full text searhes. Michigan Courts Central Home Page This is the central hub for most of the Michigan Court’s home pages and links. Michigan Supreme Court This is The Michigan Supreme Court’s Home page. The visitors to this page will find a number of tools such as Oral Argument calendars, Justice Biographies, history of the court and more. Michigan Court of Appeals This is The Michigan Court of Appeal’s Home page. The visitors to this page will find a number of tools such as e-mail opinion delivery, Justice Biographies, history of the court and more. A Michigan Circuit Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction in Michigan. It has jurisdiction over all actions except those given by state law or federal law to another court. The Circuit Court has original jurisdiction in all civil cases involving more than $25,000 and in all criminal cases where the offense is a felony or certain serious misdemeanors. The Circuit Court also hears appeals from District Court, from local government boards (i.e. zoning appeals), and from certain administrative agencies of state government (i.e., Driver's License Appeal Division of the Secretary of State). In the criminal field, district court handles all misdemeanors where punishment does not exceed one year, including arraignment, setting and acceptance of bail, trial and sentencing, and conducts preliminary examinations in felony cases. The Michigan District Court’s small claims divisions handle civil cases up to $3,000. In these cases litigants agree to waive their right to a jury, the strict adherence to the Michigan Rules of evidence, representation by a lawyer, and the right to appeal from the district judge's decision. Google is one of the most comprehensive search engines on the web. This is a useful tool for any web user. Mapquest This site is a great way to get driving directions, see a map and verify an address. It sure beats the heck out of asking for directions. Supreme Court Ruling and Decisions This is fantastic site that we have recently discovered. This site provides its users with a number of articles, court opinions and editorials addressing recent US Supreme Court decisions. The most useful tool is its separation by topic of these items.
