OUR
FIRM
In 1999, after working for two of Michigan's largest law firms, Matthew R. Halpin established his own firm with the intent of forging new ground in the field of computer and technology law and the way the practice of law is conducted. Soon after establishing Matthew R. Halpin & Associates, P.C., it became clear that a number of high tech companies were in need of legal counsel that had the requisite amount of legal experience and the technical savvy to react as fast as modern technology itself. Mr. Halpin began working with several Internet companies including www.vincentric.com , www.transgreenenergy.com , www.brainhead.com , www.sourceskill.com , and www.michiganmall.com just to name a few. In addition to these companies, Matthew R. Halpin & Associates, P.C. continued to provide legal services for several other non-internet based commercial clients including Nissan North America, Inc. www.nissanusa.com , Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Company www.unum.com , R.L. Polk & Co. www.polk.com , Cardswell Ltd. www.cardswell.com and Equifax, Inc. www.equifax.com
In addition to providing legal services to their many clients, Matthew R. Halpin & Associates, P.C. is now currently involved in several computer law, or "Cyberlaw" related activities. Aside from the development of Matthew R. Halpin & Associates, P.C.'s own home page www.halpinlaw.com , Matthew R. Halpin & Associates, P.C. has established www.MichiganCyberLaw.com
Given his ever growing experience and reputation, Matthew Halpin has been asked to comment on computer related legal issues for several newspapers, radio stations and television. Matthew Halpin is member of the Technology Law Section of the Michigan State Bar and in 2005 was appointed to the Michigan Bar's E-Filing Task Force. While working with the E-Filing Task Force, Mr. Halpin proposed a change to the Michigan Court Rules that would allow attorneys to officially e-mail documents to each other and avoid the cost of paper and postage. The Michigan State Bar Representative Assembly unanimously approved this proposed amendment. On October 16, 2007 the Michigan Supreme Court adopted this rule change.
Most recently, Matthew R. Halpin has begun working with their clients and numerous other attorneys to create a working and sustainable "paperless" office. With extensive use of email, PDA technology, document scanning, fax-to-web services and third-party off-site server storage/backup, Matthew R. Halpin & Associates, P.C. has created a new way of communicating with clients, attorneys and courts. In support of the "paperless" office, Mr. Halpin has recently published "The Practical Paperless Office Using Microsoft, Adobe, and Some Sage Advice : Methods, Organization, Hardware and Software to Create a Clutter Free Work Environment [DOWNLOAD: PDF]" . This publication is available at www.amazon.com .
